Wojtek Czyz – track and field athlete at the 2008 Paralympics

ISATEC developed several different optimized adapters for spring and long-jump prostheses used by the German track and field athlete Wojtek Czyz in advance of the 2004 Paralympics in Athens. Czyz went on to win three gold medals. His outstanding success led to plans to achieve yet another milestone in the development of prosthetic devices this spring. The goal was to achieve even more effective adaptation and optimization of the different prostheses to meet the needs Wojtek Czyz.

Initial trials at the Sporthochschule (Sports College) in Cologne involving a variety of testing applications and numerous simulation calculations by ISATEC showed that the objectives for the planned innovations were truly ambitious, yet entirely realistic given the right technological approach.

Development work was postponed briefly due to the intense preparation and training required in advance of the Paralympics in September – but with the prospect of pursuing further development of the prostheses intensely in an expanded team after the competition.

We wish Wojtek Czyz the best of success at the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing!
