At the Gmeinder Lokomotiven customer conference on June 22, interested parties were able to find out about battery-electric, hybrid and hydrogen-based solutions. (www.gmeinder-lokomotiven.de ). ISATEC gave an overview of the possibilities of technical implementation and was able to show, on the basis of real operating data of older diesel-powered locomotives, that with the fuel cell technology already available today, operation suitable for the application is possible, even allowing 3-day intervals until the next refueling.
This opens up new perspectives, as pollutant-free mobility in rail transport can already be achieved while maintaining the usual construction spaces, bringing closer the goal of Deutsche Bahn, which aims to be climate-neutral by 2040.
