Flow with combustion

The FloEFD tool is used for combustion calculations. As an example, the modelling of a system consisting of burner and heat exchanger for the research project HIS is displayed here. In a SOFC system burner, combustible residual gas is brought into contact with air through small passages and then burned. The heat released is used to heat the air entering the SOFC stack and for pre-reforming. By means of burner flow modelling, an examination is conducted under given boundary conditions to determine how evenly the combustible gas is distributed through the passages to derive design optimisations. The distribution of heat sources and the heat transfer to solid structures are also modelled. Simulations result in a temperature distribution which is used as a basis for subsequent strength simulations.
