Production technologies: dynamic metering unit

Product development from the idea to the production-ready solution – that is our speciality. At the GIFA foundry trade fair in Düsseldorf (9/07), for example, we presented a dynamic metering unit developed from start to finish by ISATEC.
The unit is used to meter additives into the mould (e.g. for an engine block) during the process of casting the molten material. This ensures optimum material properties of the cast product. Material is added in miniscule quantities (“crumb by crumb”) – continually adapted to the casting stream monitored through an optical system.
Successful down to the last detail: In order to optimize the unit, ISATEC developed a gravimetric measuring technique and combined it with a new volumetric metering process. Both the required components and the tools for serial production were developed by our specialists. The unit was engineered in Pro/Engineer and Unigraphics and produced using stereolithography and vacuum casting.
