Engineering design: high-speed milling machine
...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Only state-of-the-art 3D-CAD systems meet the demanding technical and time requirements of product developments today. On the basis of 3D design data, ISATEC develops every step in the development process consistently and error-free, to include supporting finite-element calculations, visualization, etc.

Our most imposing success in engineering design to date is the development of a high-speed profile milling machine consisting of more than 12,000 parts. The machine is used to produce individual aircraft components from extruded aluminium profiles. Building upon components developed for tested and proven portal systems, this machine can be integrated along with its base into the production hall floor.

All moveable components are positioned contact-free via magnetic linear drives. This permits micrometer-precise positioning – in spite of the dynamic which exceeds that of conventional drives. Four high-speed spindles arranged in parallel reduce cycle times preceding the first tool change. The result is a significant improvement in performance.

In addition to intensive engineering design work, we also performed all calculations/simulations relating to machine rigidity (precision) and the dynamic behaviour of acceleration and braking operations.

Despite the complex requirements involved, the machine was commissioned on schedule. We are proud to note that the computation results achieved prior to operation have been consistently confirmed.
